Luxembourg may be small, but when it comes to sports events, it knows how to go big. Every year, the country hosts large-scale, international and family-friendly sporting events that transform cities, landscapes and communities.
If you’re an expat — or simply curious about life beyond the everyday routine — these are five annual sports events in Luxembourg you should experience in 2026, plus one fun bonus.
1. DKV UrbanTrail Luxembourg
April 18–19, 2026

The DKV UrbanTrail offers a completely different way to experience Luxembourg City. Instead of traditional streets, the routes lead through green forests along the Alzette, past landmarks such as the Grand Ducal Palace, the Casemates, the Philharmonic Hall and through the spectacular Aqua Tunnel.
This event is not about speed, but about discovery. Thousands of participants take part each year, making it one of the most social and visually impressive running events in the country.

April 18, 2026

The Duck Race is probably the most unexpected “race” in Luxembourg. Thousands of rubber ducks are released into the river, all sponsored to support charity — and designed as a Green Event, promoting eco-responsible event organization.
From midday onwards, the square at Neimënster will host a lively event village featuring:
activities and entertainment for children
DJ sets and music
food stands with grilled options, fries, vegetarian alternatives and desserts
drink stands for all ages
All proceeds from the event are donated to charitable associations dedicated to improving the well-being of children in need. These organizations will also be present on-site, offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about their important and ongoing work.
The Duck Race is organized by the Table Ronde Luxembourgeoise, under the high patronage of the City of Luxembourg, and has become one of the country’s most beloved community events.
Living in Luxembourg means more than just work and routines. These annual sports events offer a chance to connect, explore and experience the country in a more dynamic way — whether you’re an athlete, a spectator or simply curious.
